Sri Lanka is a developing economy based largely on agriculture, services, and light industry. From the Sri Lankan economy about 21% of the GDP can be attributed to agriculture and it employees about 38% of the total workforce.
In Sri Lanka, our cash crops include tea, rubber and coconut that comes from plantation agriculture. Rice on the other hand is our principle food crop that employs over 70 percent of Sri Lanka's rural population.
Breathtaking wildlife, scenic mountainous terrain, stunning beaches, minerals (titanium ore, graphite, kaolin, limestone and gemstones as well as large deposits of unexploited iron ore), a tropical rain forest climate with a high average rainfall and fertile land makes Sri Lanka ideal for an agricultural economy with one third of its land been arable.
